DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR SALE:

Up for offer this week is a stunning 5 arm candelabrum from France. This piece is from what is known as “French Empire” – A distinctive and specific aesthetic that is considered very classical. This candelabrum or candelabra is made of Ormolu bronze.
What is Ormolu? Ormolu is the specific term used to describe “gilded bronze”. In the early 1800’s, Ormolu bronze was created using high carat gold that was mixed with mercury amalgam. This mixture was applied to the bronze and then fired in a kiln. The heat of the kiln would cause the mercury to evaporate, leaving only the gold behind, which bonded to the bronze during the heating process.
This candelabrum features a small child or cherub that is holding the base of the 5 arm candelabrum. The candelabrum features it’s original inserts, which are meant to hold the candles straight/upright and also included is the original candle snuffer (shown on the side) - - -This snuffer typically sits in the candelabrum’s centre post at the top when no candles are installed.
The candelabrum includes the 5 black candles shown in the pictures and video. Please note that I have a second candelabrum available and listed separately. While both candelabrum appear identical, the bronze cherub’s are slightly different. I was told that one is a boy and the other is a girl cherub. I don’t know if this is true or not but this listing is for the
BOY
cherub.
Certainly, distinctive and this style does scream classical antique look and feel. A specific style for collectors of this genre.
