Super rare reproduction Red Army WWII ushanka, made directly from the original 1940 specification sheet used by the original factories, for the Soviet military in WW2. We spent 6 hours translating and drafting the pattern directly from the original document - every dimension, curvature in flaps etc.. are spot on!
This ushanka in particular was made from a very rare and limited fake fleece fur in the most common taupe brown color used on the originals, the pile length is 0.5mm which was most commonly used on originals, and also the reason the Soviets dubbed it "fish fur" due to the material not resembling that of any animal.
Specs -
The outer body material is 100% brushed cotton flannel in classic subdued olive drab color, This fabric is custom made with an artificial vintage old patina which makes this ushanka look like a battlefield piece from WW2, I can say it is the most authentic looking material we've been able to use on our hats. This is a rather expensive material so this cap is priced a little higher due to this.
*Cotton material (flannel and occasionally twill) was used for infantry caps where as wool was primarily for officer or commander caps.
We use a special technique to ensure that the fur fully wraps around the edges of the ear flaps when sewing. Without the technique we use, you will often see many repros that look "odd" from the front, due to one flap having the cotton material exposed on the front of one flap when tied up.
Liner is made with 100% heavy duty cotton in field gray color, padded and quilted with 5 layers of polar batting to match the density of the original caps. Thread used is extra thick olive color quilt thread, which we found to be a perfect match based off of several 1940 dated originals that we have studied in hand from the Samoilovoy factory. The middle "diamond" shape on the crown has 2 extra layers cutout to shape and inserted to ensure the crown is reinforced (that's 7 layers total)
Inner crown is also hemmed using a 0.5mm seam allowance which is the standard for wartime ushankas, This is a technique rarely seen anymore but it ensures the crown will never come unattached, It will certainly always be rock solid in place.
Ties are 100% cotton in gray color based on an original, ends are sealed with a few dots of super glue to ensure no fraying

Over all a very rare ushanka for reenactors, display or to simply have an exact replica to wear in winter. All ushankas sold here are one of a kind hats, We do not mass produce these nor do we take custom orders (due to scarcity of materials). The materials are hand selected in very small quantities to only match those of the time period. This is why each one at our shop is unique to it's self. You will be getting something that you won't find anywhere else, no matter how hard you look.
